With intuitive colors and a brushstroke that is both concise and blurred, painter Hyunjin Kim captures the subjects that emerge in her mind with her own distinctive palette. Following her previous solo exhibitions paDdock7_24 and Gochi, Kim presents her third solo show LOVE at sangheeut.
Kim reconstructs figures and images—some imagined, others drawn from memory—onto the surface of the canvas. Rather than focusing on accurate depiction, she emphasizes the very act of painting, allowing room for deviations and variations to arise in the process. In LOVE, her imagination unfolds around the theme of “love” in all its meanings and emotional temperatures: a die and its shadow resting on a notebook, an angel and a devil atop a piano, and other evocative moments.
The presence of musical imagery is particularly noteworthy. Metronome depicts the small timekeeping device essential to musicians; Piano shows a grand piano where a white angel and a red devil play; and you are my sunshine features a musical score that directly references the song of the same name.
